What is Payne Arena?

Payne Arena opened on October 23, 2003 as Dodge Arena, a $23 million multi-purpose complex owned by the City of Hidalgo. It became State Farm Arena in 2010 and took its current name in 2019 when local dealership Payne Auto Group acquired the naming rights. The arena seats about 6,800 for center-stage concerts and up to roughly 7,400 in its full 360-degree configuration. Notable events have included Alan Jackson's inaugural concert, George Strait's 2014 farewell-tour stop, an NBA preseason game between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors in 2014, and UFC Fight Night in 2016. It was home to the NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers from 2007 to 2018.
